In 1936,19 year old Cussy Carter, the last of the rare Blue People of Appalachian Kentucy, joins the Pack Horse Library Project of Kentucky to deliver reading materials to the impoverished hill families of Eastern Kentucky. The Pack Horse Library Project was a project of Eleanor Roosevelt during the Great Depression of the 1930s.
