Drawing on a decade of research and original reporting, James H. Barron tells the story of a man whose pursuit of uncomfortable truths put him at odds with the government of his native Greece and with eight U.S. presidents, from Truman through Reagan. Elias Demetracopoulos was the target of CIA, FBI, and State Department surveillance and harassment, as well as a kidnapping plot. The Greek Connection tells about the cost of standing up for democracy and a free press, and the role of foreign money in the presidential election of 1968.
