Local author Kuri Yasuno shares her story as a first-time mom of a child on the autism spectrum in the hopes of inspiring awareness and inclusion. She is the author of a new book that is drawing attention. It shares her son's experiences and their connection with humorous anecdotes and honest introspection. In Autism with a Side of Sushi, Kuri provides her unique perspective as an immigrant who can empathize and sympathize with the feelings of wanting to assimilate and feel included. As a child, Kuri had immigrated to the US from Japan. She went on to work at the Discovery Health Channel and the National Geographic Channel. When her son, Daniel, was diagnosed with being on the autism spectrum, Kuri shifted her focus from her career to his education and social skills development.
