This year’s Mount Hope Commission Juneteenth Event is titled Walk the Walk. Through a panel discussion about the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman, we will learn about how she, and ultimately, we, can transform our lived experience into personal action that creates a more just society. Our event will feature a pouring of libations and music by Cheverly’s own Cheryl Jones, Ordained Minister and jazz vocalist, as well a wonderful group of speakers who will address this topic from historical, mystical and personal perspectives: Therese Taylor-Stinson, an Ordained Deacon and author of Walking the way of Harriet Tubman: Public Mystic and Freedom Fighter; Jenny Dees, of “We Walk with Harriet” and a walker of the Harriet Tubman Byway; and John Peter Thomas, a Maryland Historian and Chair of the Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Commission.
Walk the Walk is free and open to the public, no registration necessary. For more information about the event and about the Mount Hope Commission, go to mounthopecommission.org.
Cheverly Village members needing a ride may call the Coordinator to request transportation. Please register with Cheverly Village as well.
