Become a Volunteer

Trained Cheverly Village volunteers provide services to Village members—seniors or any adult resident requiring the services—so they can stay in their homes as active, valued members of the community as long as possible.

By volunteering, you become the Village for Cheverly Village members. The help you provide—a ride to a medical appointment, help setting up a computer, a friendly visit, or other sort of assistance—makes Cheverly Village real for the members!

Should You Become a Cheverly Village Volunteer?

  • Are you 14 or older and looking for a rewarding experience here in your own community?
  • Do you feel passionate about supporting Cheverly’s seniors and persons with disabilities?
  • Can you volunteer for a few hours on average per week?
  • Do you think you could provide Village services after training in safety and some other key topics?
  • If you are a high school student, do you want to earn some service hours?

Volunteer drivers provide transportation to and from destinations in the Washington area and sometimes, when you are willing, to medical appointments as far as Annapolis or Baltimore. Other volunteers run errands such as picking up prescriptions, assist with light indoor chores or occasional outdoor tasks such as leaf and snow removal, help with household electronics, provide occasional relief for caregivers, and help the Village organize group activities and make referrals to professional service providers.

In the volunteer application, you will be able to indicate what kind of services you would like to provide, and also your likely time availability. This information enables the Village Coordinator to match the members’ requests with volunteer interests and availability. After you have turned in your application, you will be invited to the next training session.

The training you receive at the orientation session will equip you to assist members confidently and responsibly. Review the Village Volunteer Handbook here! You will also have opportunities in the future for additional training in specific subjects of interest. All volunteers agree to have their backgrounds checked; in addition, the driving records of volunteer drivers are checked.

If you are 14 or older—there is no upper age limit!—and you want a rich and rewarding experience here in your own community, and you would like to volunteer for at least a few hours per month…then please apply here!
