The Oscar-winning black comedy from 1980 Being There asks what has become an all too relevant question these days: What happens when the absurdly improbable becomes real?  The great Peter Sellers stars as a sheltered estate gardener whose entire experience of the outside world comes from watching TV.  By chance he becomes a trusted advisor to the president of the U.S., who takes his naive utterances as pearls of wisdom. 

 

Associate Professor Mary Dutterer of Prince George's and Howard County Community Colleges will introduce this classic, recently placed on the National Film Registry, and will lead the discussion afterwards.
