Prince George's County Historical Society presents its first History Chat of 2022 featuring Professor Richard Bell, author of Stolen:Five Free Boys Kidnapped into Slavery and Their Astonishing Odyssey Home. PGCHS historian Susan Pearl will interview Professor Bell about this amazing story. We will get to know these five Black boys of antebellum Philadelphia; discover how Professor Bell happened upon this incident of the so-called Reverse Underground Railroad; and learn about his exhaustive journey through the archival sources that illuminated this story.

Please register with Cheverly Village to make known your interest in our events.  Then, Register with PGCHS. PGCHS will send you the Zoom link for the conversation after you register with them.

Richard Bell is Professor of History at the University of Maryland.  He has held major research fellowships at Yale, Cambridge and the Library of Congress.  He is recipient of the National Endowment of the Humanities Public Scholar award, and the 2021 Andrew Carnegie Fellowship.  He serves as trustee of the Maryland Center for History and Culture (formerly the Maryland Historical Society), and is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
